7 Steps to Becoming a Good Leader by Don Failla

1.  Become actively involved            
 You sponsor a friend in your company, and you help that friend sponsor their friend, and it just keeps going. You teach and nurture your team to be a success; you share a proven system that will make them successful.  This way they can duplicate their efforts and grow very fast and strong. You are the role model, and your team will follow. In a networking family, you teach and nurture each person along the road to success. Of course, you have to take one step at a time, and sometimes it’s baby steps. Sometimes you might even fall down. But you get back up and you learn from your mistakes, and you keep going. You are a leader; never give up! Soon your team will start multiplying and your organization will be growing faster and faster, and stronger and stronger. You will really start to have fun helping others and making money yourself.


I like to compare network marketing to making popcorn. Whether you cook the popcorn in the pan, or in a bag in the microwave, you’ve got to get some heat under it first. In network marketing, the heat comes when people have the vision and passion for what they’re doing. Once it starts getting hot in the pan or in the bag, the popcorn starts popping like crazy.  It’s just popping and popping and the bag fills up and popcorn is just overflowing out of the pan. Network marketing is the same.  It starts off slow in the beginning.  You’re not making a whole lot of money and maybe not helping a whole lot of people.  But then, all of a sudden, it takes off. Too many times have I seen people quit right before things get moving.  That is why it is important to understand the network marketing business, and it is crucial that you have the tools you need to succeed.

2. Have a “leader’s attitude”
 You must have the vision and focus to want to be a leader. In network marketing, helping people be successful is your number-one concern and responsibility. You need to work on yourself and grow and develop into a highly effective and caring individual. Networking is a relationship business; we change people’s lives one person at a time. What is so great is that what you learn in building your networking business, you can use in all aspects of your life.

3.  Get organized
 When you are organized, you cannot only lead yourself, but you can lead others, too. Clean up your car, your closet, your office, your drawers, your desk, your garage, your purse, your wallet, your kids, your home, and your yard.  When you are organized, you feel good about yourself and your surroundings.  When you feel good, you can help others feel good and have a better life. Remember as a leader, you are a role model. You lead by example. You can’t teach somebody something that you don’t know or can’t do yourself. You have to know what you are doing.

4. Be flexible
 Things are always changing, aren’t they? It is fun and good to learn new things, and if you have a positive attitude it’s very easy to be flexible. A leader is always adapting and addressing life’s changes.  You have to constantly adjust to different situations, circumstances and conditions. Of course, you always stay focused on the goal, and remain consistent with your purpose and your vision of the future. There are many ways to meet your goals, if you are flexible. Remember life is a journey, not a destination.

5. Communicate, communicate, communicate
 The best communicators are also the best listeners. I have found that lack of communication is a huge problem, in all areas of life. As a leader, it is very important to keep in touch with your family of team members. As the leader, you keep them on track and inspire them to keep moving forward, one step at a time. As a leader, you help them to know what they want. A lot of people don’t have any idea what their purpose is; they are just drifting. That’s where communication comes in. Start asking questions. Start teaching. Start sharing.

6. Manage your time effectively
 Time waits for no one. The following list contains some of the skills you should develop to help you best utilize your time:
                -Prioritize
                -Multi-task
                -Always be on time or early
                -Delegate

  As your networking family starts to grow, your time will become more and more valuable. Time is your most important and precious resource; use it well, and make every minute count.




7.  Inspire others to action
  If a person really wants something they don’t already have, they just need a plan. Help your iRep write a mission statement.  This statement is his or her purpose and goal in life. We have a mission statement that is to help as many people as we can, and to have a better quality of life through network marketing.
