“Acres of Diamonds, Fields of Gold”
-an excerpt from Don Failla’s book “The System- How to Build a Large,
Successful Network Marketing Organization”
Many years ago, a man who lived in
Africa sold his farm because he wanted to go looking for diamonds. He traveled
all over the African continent searching for the precious stones. Sadly,
he had little luck in his search. Finally, after years of struggle,
disappointment, and desperation, he ended his miserable life by drowning
himself in the ocean.
Ironically, the person to whom this man sold his farm
eventually discovered the Kimberly mine on that very farm. That’s right – the
largest diamond mine in Africa was located on the very plot of land sold by the
original farmer, who foolishly left it in order to go looking for diamonds
elsewhere!
Here’s another story, which took place during the great gold
rush era in California. A man named Sutter, who hailed from Switzerland, bought
a farm in the foothills near Sacramento. Who did he buy it from? That’s right –
a man who went off to look for gold in other parts of the state. As you’ve
probably guessed (or already knew), Mr. Sutter discovered the largest field of
gold in the state on the same land tract sold by the fellow who went looking
elsewhere for riches!
My point is this: I want you to recognize your acre of
diamonds and your field of gold. Teach the people you already have in your
group how to talk to the people they already know so that when it is
appropriate, they can introduce them to you. In the process of meeting the
friends of your friends, in coffee shops or restaurants, you will eventually
become involved with more people than you will ever know what to do with.
